Pleas e Help Me. What is the inseam size for a Plus Size girl who is 5′7?

I’m 17 and 5′7. I’m plus size. I wear a size a 26 and school is starting soon, my parents have just a little time to get Khaki Pants and Polo Shrirts. And I don’t have a tape measure at all. In my jeans, I find that a Long Pants are too long for me. They come way past my feet. Mostly, the Long Pants will look baggy on me. I’m getting the clothes at OldNavy.com. The stores don’t carry my size.

I don’t know about the polos. You will need to check with your school and find out if those are acceptable or not. I know that Land’s End also has polo shirts, and they have plus sizes. Where I live, most of the schools which require uniforms will accept things from Land’s End, so keep that in mind. As for khaki, there are slight variations in khaki, but it’s basically all the same color, and those pants are definitely khaki colored.

Your inseam is a bit problematic. Really, the only way to tell properly is to measure it. Inseam can vary widely in women who wear exactly the same size and are the same height, because inseam depends on the length of your legs. To measure your inseam, you need to measure from the center of your crotch (center seam on a pair of pants which fit well will do) down the inside of your leg and down to where you would like your pants to fall (some women prefer the tops of their shoes, others prefer a little bit longer or shorter). If you don’t have a measuring tape, but do have a ruler, you can do it with a bit of string or yarn. Simply measure it off with the yarn, and then carefully measure the yarn with the ruler to get the total length.

To complicate matters, Old Navy does not have standard inseams. I worked in women’s retail and I know the standard inseams are generally: 28 inches for short, 30 inches for average, 32 inches for tall. Old Navy, on the other hand, adds about two inches to each of their measurements, so their short inseam is about 30, their average about 32, and their tall about 34.

You say you have jeans, and that you have tried on the long inseam, but they are way too long for you. My question is were those Old Navy jeans, or some other manufacturer? And how far down past your feet did they go? If they were Old Navy, and the long ones were too long, I suggest you go with the short inseam, which will be about 30 inches. That is a standard average inseam to everyone else in the world. If the jeans you tried on were not Old Navy, but some other brand, I would go with an average or regular inseam, which will still put you at around 30 inches. I am two inches shorter than you are, and my exact inseam measurement is 29 inches–I usually go with average or regular length pants, and I am fine. Occasionally, I end up with pants which are supposed to have a 30″ inseam, but which actually are a bit longer–in those cases, I either have them taken up by an alterations person, or I put them in the dryer and shrink them a bit, as that makes them a bit shorter.

Keep in mind that you can return the pants if they are not the correct length. You might consider buying one in the short inseam, and one in the regular, so that no matter what happens, you have a pair when school starts. Find the one which fits better, and return the other one and exchange it for the proper inseam. If I were in a time crunch like you are, that’s what I would do. I would simply try them once I got them, and immediately exchange the one which doesn’t fit correctly.

Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is going out and buying a tape measure, so you can get the correct inseam measurement before you order anything. You can also go to a store, and ask someone to measure you there.
